"HELP Me......Please!!!!!!"

Hey ladies!!!!!!!! It has been a LONG time since my last post. So you know there is much urgency in what I'll be talking about in this post. I've have many friends and have met quite a few ladies that have gone natural since I've met them. Honestly we all need HELP from time to time. There are so many misconceptions about natural hair. The biggest error I've seen is the "I just rolled out of the bed accept me as I am look". PSA: Natural hair does not mean it will style and take care of itself. Any hair texture and style takes time and maintenance to remain or work towards being healthy. I have 3 very important tips for you!
  1. Research
  2. Moisturize
  3. Protective Style
The most important thing you can do for your hair is to research. It is so easy to follow ads, commercials and also word of mouth in regards to hair products. But we all have different needs for hair care. Our hair textures may look the same but we must find out what works best for us idividually. A lot of women have complained that it is very expensive to try out different products. I am not telling you to go buy $100 worth of hair products every time you go to a hair store (I'm guilty of always spending more money than I originally anticiapted LOL). When you go into your local hair store ask questions about the products. The people who work there are there to help you. If they are truly the experts they should be they will be able to point you in the right direction as far as what product you should use.

Take your time when looking at the different brands. Read the labels and look at the ingredients. You should already have a good idea whether your hair is thick, dry, damaged, etc. There are many products who address these issues specifically and can help get your hair back to a healthy state. Don't forget we have the world at our finger tips via the internet. There are so many blogs (such as this one :D), youtube videos, articles and more that you can read to get tips and information. Don't be scurred to do a little research. You have the ability to make the right decisions based off of education and experience.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to keep your hair moisturized. As African American or of African descent we do not produce enough oil to keep our hair moisturized. That is why conditioners, hair serums/oils and grease is very important to use for healthy hair care and growth. Every single hair store has aisles and aisles of products that we can use. As I stated before by this point you should have found a great shampoo, conditioner and or hair serum/oil. Stick with it and make sure you moisturize and use daily if the label tells you to do so.

We have to pay special attention to the weather. Believe it or not if we don't keep our hair protected with hats, scarves, bonnets, etc. during the varying temperatures we may see very drastic affects on our hair sooner rather than later. So pay very close attention to your hair. You don't want too much to time to pass before addressing damaged hair. I would not want to see or hear about hair loss or hair damage. As ladies our hair is very important to us whether it is cut very short or passed our shoulders.

Last but certainly not least we must keep our hair in a protective style. A protective style is a hair style that is the least damaging to your hair. Some naturals may wear their hair in braids, afros, weaves, twists, locks, etc. All these styles are great and absolutely beautiful but be sure that your hair is not pulled too tight. Hair follicles around our edges in particular are stressed when braided and pulled too tight. Major damage and hair loss can occur. Sometimes hair never grows back in this area and may have to be treated by a "hair doctor" or dermatologist.
I typed in "damaged black hair" in the google search engine and this picture popped up. I almost cried when I saw this pic. I'm not sure what caused her hairline to recede so far.
It could have been years of getting relaxers, weaves, braids or even tight ponytails. Please
be careful in what you use and how you style your hair. You hair will show and let you know
how healthy or damaged it is. Pay close attentionto these signs. I wish you all a happy journey towards healthy hair. Let me know what else you'd like to know.
