Hair Stories/Journeys
We all have a story to tell. We have had trials and tribulations with our hair. I can remember being scared of the old-fashioned hot combs my mom used to use to straighten my hair. Or my first time at the beauty salon. I sat for 9 hours!!! just to get African braids. I would love to hear all of your hair stories and journeys to how you used to wear your hair up til now. Do you plan on drastically changing your hair in the future? Write on my sistas!

Well, the beginning of my journey was rough when I was small. My parents didn't know much about hair care and didn't know how to take care of my hair. My grandmother somewhat did and put relaxers/perms in my hair which changed my natural grade of hair. They cut my hair from braids that were past my shoulders into afros because it was "easier to take care of". Years passed, I went from micros to wave nouveau looking like a puerto rican!!
ReplyDeleteAfter that damaged my hair, I said enough is enough and have been natural ever since the mid '90's. I've had hair past my shoulders to hair shorter than Halle Berry on Boomerang!! Both were easy to take care of and I do miss my short hair.. but it's long for me!!!
WOW!!! Since the 90's that's great!! If you had a choice, would you have stayed natural all of your life? Do you think hair trends created somewhat of a pressure to go with the flow?
ReplyDeleteIf it were up to me and my parents knew exactly how to take care of my hair, I'd definitely be natural all my life without cutting my hair but just trimming the ends. I miss my orginal grade of hair that I had when I was younger. I feel the chemicals now are much more stronger than they once were back in the day but they have more knowledge on what chemicals are good and which ones are bad for hair as well.
ReplyDeleteAs far as pressure, I felt that more in high school with the different styles that were going around and I just had the simple pony tail or every now and then wore my hair straight. It was that "Salt-n-Pepper" era where fades and lines in the head were it!! I gave in and I did like the style, but the upkeep was the pits for me!! Eventually I grew it out, went into the wave nouveau, then natural.
